Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
The beast still shouts for what it’s yearning
He stokes the fire, desire burning
The never-ending quenchless craving
The unforgiving misbehaving
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
So paint your eyes as black as sorrow
Hide yourself behind tomorrow
The nightmares search for infiltration
In domination, captivation
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Return again to where it’s darkest
Dragging home this heathen harvest
And all the children subjugated
Manipulated, propagated
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
If darkness had a son
Here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be

As a 87 year old rock grandpa I’ve seen them in 86 and I’m gonna in my wheelchair this year to see them live. No one can stop an old metal head. Rock on and rock hard!!!

You 🚶♂️ go old man!!! Love it
Awesome!!!!! I'll be 50 this year and these guys still rock!
I’m not a perfect parent - far from it, in fact - but when I cranked this song in the car and my 5 year-old daughter asked “Daddy, is this Metallica??” it damn near brought tears to my eyes. Proof that I did SOMETHING right in this whole parenting thing!
Took my kiddo to see Metallica live when he was 10. He is 22 now and they are his favourite band . \\m// *5s Dads

Sad but true. LOL
Motorhead for more that 30 years did what mtllc have done since the early 90s. I love metal music and it is frustrating meeting people who think mtllc is more important than metal music. Did you know James and Lars considered Iron Maiden rivals? WOW! Just like Kiss did. There are and were so many superb bands out there... and you dont take a look at them. Whojojouh, whojojouh.
Metallica is one of the few bands that can chug in standard tuning and still sound heavy
I argue that it's the thing that got them to where they are now
behold the right hand of god james hetfield
Some songs are even in higher key like F# (2nd fret), A (A open string) and B (A string 2nd fret) but they are still heavy as fuck. It's all about how they play it, the arrangements, the instrumentation and the progression...
Metallica still defines metal for me, there are many better bands but I still use Metallica as standard.

You can tell this song is super personal to James. That "hide yourself behind tomorrow" line is telltale for anyone that's ever dealt with addiction.
This is about procrastination of getting clean. Ah just another hit. Tomorrow I’ll get clean. I promise. And the cycle goes around again. In the meanwhile, let’s have another beer.
Abuse, Depression, Suicide. A lot the older songs James wrote too. Kinda funny how Metallica won me over with just the music side of it when I was younger (I'm a guitar player), I understood the lyrics, but I just didn't actually "feel" them. Now in my early 30s I've been to a psych ward, rehab, abused a handful of substances, ODd, made mistakes, life experience, etc and going back to Metallica now I can empathize much more with the hell James lived through, and I'm worried about his mental state, as he's going through a divorce and shit. He opened up to a crowd about his depression not too long ago. Hope he's ok and knows he's made a positive impact in a lot of people's lives.

Same here dude, 1988 AJFA. Been in my heart ever since. I believe I totally get what they're about. Most of the negative comments come from people who barely know them.
same here, Since RTL when I was 11 years old... but justice is my all time favourite. This track is killer, looking forward to the new release.
Most negatives comments come from unhappy people who don't have a life, they just want a reaction, I block that all out and just crank the volume louder. I'm 51 now, and it's crazy how I can still see me and my buddies in the mosh pit making our way to front row. That was during the And justice for all tour. We made it to the first row and it was the coolest thing to experience. Everyone should ride the lightning and not everyone's ass about nothing.
@@viperbites7274 Negative comments come from people who don't like the new songs, there is nothing wrong with that, they are allowed to express any emotion or opinion they have about the songs.
Music is completely subjective, you can't force yourself to like something if you don't. I personally like all the new songs, but I didn't like DM or HTSD. In my opinion, people can be as negative as they like, it never bothers me, it doesn't change my enjoyment of the music I like.

Singer James Hetfield deserves admiration for writing a song exposing his struggle with addiction, as a human. We all have flaws, brave people admit them, talk about them and overcome them.

Metallica feels like a journey at this point, with the many different styles they tried, yet still being them and immediately recognizable.
I dig the vocal dubbing and dark feel of this one.
Edit:
On another note, as life continues I get to feel how each album represents a different chapter of their life, as each resonates differently with every chapter of my own.
I feel like Death Magnetic, Hardwired, and 72 Seasons is them realizing they done everything they could do, they experimented with the Loads and St. Anger, now they're using what they learned and gone back to the basics and are just having fun.
@@Hopi_Viking Yeah, you can see that lyrically as well as stylistically imo. Each album is how they deal with a new episode in their life, and as the years go by I can relate more to different aspects in what they did.
@@liontrail I still don't think St. Anger is a great album, but I can enjoy some songs from it, but I feel like St. Anger was them experimenting with Nu Metal after hanging around Slipknot and Korn during the 90's. But they always are still trying to be "Metallica" while failing at being Metallica during the Loads and St. Anger session. You can hear it in their songwriting that they actually have never changed their formula from Kill Em All all the way through their career, they never stopped being Metallica, I just feel like they were trying to take the alternative/hard rock and Nu metal sound a different direction and make it their own, and unfortunately failing at it. That's just how I feel about those eras.
Loved them since the early 90’s. Saw them in 1998. Still a great band!!!!!!!

I am a 30 year old metal head and have been a fan of Metallica for the last few years. Dating back to when I was around 12 or 13. My old man in his 40s now would play Metallica a lot on road trips and everything and because of him I became a hardcore Metallica fan. If it wasn’t for him I probably wouldn’t be a fan of this incredible music of theirs
First heard Metallica in '86. I was 12. Now approaching 50, there has only been one constant in this crazy, messed up world. Tallica for life!
🤘💥🤘
I would agree had they made this album after Garage Inc., for the weak stuff in between haven't been a constant to me in between. With that said, great they are back in business.
I’m 48 , first got into Metallica in ‘86 also 🤘🤘
SO u must be 49 too that's when I first heard them, everyone was skateboarding and shit
Man seeing them in the 80s would have been insane
I like it. Sounds to me like Metallica found a way to modernize their sound just enough, without coming off as inauthentic or try-hards. Continuing down the path already chosen for their last one or two albums. Totally respecting the effort that late into their career and actually enjoying the outcome so far.
Really explains how I feel about this album!
Feels like the natural evolution for them!

I showed my dad this song, and he liked it for the first time listening to the new Metallica. He likes the double bass. He also likes the intro of the snare drum. He thinks it's a good song for a new Metallica. It stuck to our heads.
They still have that vibe and their own style just like in their younger years ! Their songs old and new still give me the chills...such power and thrill all this time.
If you say so. I don’t like any of the new songs released so far. At all.

All the respect in the world for these men to produce this album after all of their success the last 30 years. Fantastic music...
40 years actually. Not being a dick. Just saying they have been blessing us for 40 years. Since 1983 Can you believe that? Crazy I tell ya! Best ban ever!
Metallica is letting the music speak for itself in these videos. No storylines to follow. Just them playing. Gotta respect that.
I was 11 in 1988 when I heard very first ever Metallica...now 2023 and I still love you guys! METALLICA FOREVER🤘🤘
Me too..... 11 in 88 and first heard Metallica.
I was in 8th grade in 87 and a buddy gave me a cassette of Puppets to listen to. Been a Metallica fan ever since. Seen them live 7times and have every album on vinyl plus tons of live shows. They are true legends in my eyes.
Took my son on My shoulders for 2 hrs to see them, part of history
Metallica....still killing it! Hate it or Love it, they're still Killer! Love every song I've heard from this new album
Its amazing how MetallicA seems to finally be getting a second wind. The influence of Ghost has really re-energized them all.
Around 5:58 when James hits the higher "leave me be" and kind of shrieks, I freaking love the similarly shrieking lead part underneath. SOOOO dope. Good job, boys, I'm so pumped for the record!
Fucking hell it sounds so good! I wonder if james will scream it live? I’m ticking down the days till the record I’m so excited for it!🎸🎸
My thoughts exactly
Since 1984 until now. i lived the metallica era. So proud about it!
It’s just good to see these dudes alive and well, making music. James’ voice is in very good shape, too.
How has Metallica not played a Super Bowl yet? It’s criminal at this point.
So much to unpack here!! The riff is so intense!! Hearing Lars back on the toms make me really excited to hear his performance for 72 seasons. The lyrics hit me deeply. As an alcoholic for 22 years,I empathize with James immensely! Recovery and quitting smoking! This song is my anthem!! Kirk's lead is mind-blowing 🔥🔥🔥 Rob's bass rumbling through at the end is a great touch to a phenomenal track!! Favorite song of the 3 so far. Great riff, chugging heavy guitar throughout, really comes off as just classic Heavy Metal so to say. Makes you want to bang your head and throw your fist in the air.
My fav out of the first 3 also. Great intro and guitar riffs.
Anyone who reviews this song and says it's trash needs to get their head examined. For a band pushing 60, they really rock!!
It’s definitely the most classically Metallica song out of the 3.
yes!! I already like this album more then the previous one!
@@petermiller4953 Guess I need my head examined. The riffs and guitar work are great, but the singing is atrocious. This album so far reminds of of St Anger which is a pile of trash.

Never a bad time for a new Metallica track, killed it again boys, still going strong after 42 years, amazing 🤘
This song has some solid chops. I love that after 40 years Metallica can observe simplicity in music and show that it doesn’t always have to be a shredder to be a good song! Hard hitting, meaningful music here man! Love it!

Man, Lux was such a happy song, i had no clue the other songs would be filled with so much pain. Such beautiful writing
Edit: what i meant is that i thought the other songs on the new album would've kept the same happy theme because of how Lux sounded, but I'm not complaining 😜
Overall probably be a mix of both so I’m def happy about it too!

No contest for me, its the best song off this album so far. Getting some Load/Reload vibes off James' vocals, very dark, earns its name.
very reload vibes
I agree totally! The vocals, 4/4 drumming, the structure and even the ink blotches on the music video are like the CD singles had on their art!
Did remind me of load and reload
Ur kidding aren’t ya? Nothing like load/reload. Those were more hardrock bluesy songs. James had the softer vocals on them too. This is way more metal. His voice is more shot now too
There's been a lot of Load/Reload influences on the songs and I'm honestly all for it. They're some of my favorite records.

Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
The beast still shouts for what it's yearning
He stokes the fire, desire burning
The never-ending quenchless craving
The unforgiving misbehaving
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
Temptation
So paint your eyes as black as sorrow
Hide yourself behind tomorrow
The nightmares search for infiltration
In domination, captivation
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be
Return again to where it's darkest
Dragging home this heathen harvest
And all the children subjugated
Manipulated, propagated
If darkness had a son, here I am
Temptation is his father
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
If darkness had a son, here I am
If darkness had a son, here I am
If darkness had a son, here I am
I bathe in holy water
Temptation, leave me be

The positive comments that have been said so far in this thread are incredible! All ages are here. Young to old. I just had a buddy son win his talent show playing Metallica. Salute!
This whole album is amazing. James voice is better than ever. Whoever produced this did an excellent job with the sound
I think it's the same guy, Greg Fidelman; he's still annoying me. The sound is the best since ReLoad, but while no longer clipping, it's still brickwalled. I feel like Lux Aeterna is the only song with a bit of room for the reverb, which that song seems to have a lot of. I got back to Lightning or Muppets or Load to hear the breathing room.
Over produced in my opinion
At least he is isn’t doing the squealing in this song.
Thanks to Bob Rock’s influence, I think since “The Black Album,” he’s tried too hard and got pretty cheesy.
He’s much better when he just sings as himself and doesn’t try to add all of the “artifacts” in like squeals, et cetera.
@@staygold902 everything they’ve done has been over-produced since “the black album.”
They, clearly, were more concerned with radio play and profits.
Most of the other “big four” bands have stayed fairly true to themselves.
But, then again, maybe James and Lars are staying true to themselves. Maybe their political awareness and desire for complexity was just a phase. Maybe they changed and no longer care about the state of the nation, the state of the people, the death of democracy, the ravages of war.
Maybe now, they just want to write music that is simple to play and people can shake their booties to it.
However, I will give them respect for this song. It’s got a dark feel.
I’ve got to give some respect. Metallica had a little an influence on me when I started writing thrash metal and playing in bands.
Although, admittedly, I was MORE (musically) influenced Hexanhaus, Overkill and Death Angel.
Jame’s vocal style definitely (originally) influenced my style.
I just wish they would care about social issues, again. They have the power to influence people, wake them the f… up.
But, I guess, once some people become wealthy, they become detached from the struggles of people who are less affluent. I guess they no longer care about service members who get used like pawns in illegal wars.
I cared, in my teens. I joined (for financial reasons). I served in an illegal invasion. So, my level of care about corruption only increased with age.
I just wish Jame’s still cared about service members, and other who struggle.
He used to care about freedom and had a dislike for corruption. I wish he still would.
I can't stand the kick...it sound awful and I am amazed these takes are the golden ones by Lars...holy sh*t.
But agree with other it sound brickwalled and just flat boring. Was expecting more..
Killer riffs, killer drums, killer vocals & the same solo as always - I love Metallica!!!

Damn straight.
@sadsadsa asadasd the song is not bad. But if compare to Megadeth's new album, yeah...
Fantastic! I love when James uses a more raspy tone instead of the higher pitched singing. This has so much better of a feel for me. The whole band is sharp and on point in this. Love the longer intro where all the band members get to strut a bit. Love it guys! Been jamming these boys since the 80's and this catches my attention.
